Wheelchairs: Mobility Options for You

Can You Get Medical Care from Home?

The idea of sitting in a doctor's office can be unappealing to even the most affable person. When you are sick, it can seem like torture. Fortunately for you, advances in how doctors treat patients could mean that receiving medical care is as easy as picking up your phone or logging on to a computer. If you are looking for alternative means of receiving medical care, here are some ideas.

Mobile Doctor

House calls by a trained medical professional seem like dinosaurs from the past, but they are making a comeback. Instead of a doctor showing up at your door with limited medical supplies, many mobile doctors have a wide range of medical equipment that they use to provide thorough assessments of patients. For instance, many mobile doctors have portable ultrasounds, x-rays, and EKGs available to patients.

Mobile doctors also treat more than just coughs and sniffles. Some mobile doctors treat conditions such as pneumonia, arthritis, and abdominal pain. They can even perform routine checkups and provide referrals for other services, including mental-health treatment.

Some insurance providers do not cover the expenses of a mobile doctor. However, the prices are usually affordable and offer a chance to have a doctor privately and confidentially assess your condition. In addition to that, you do not have to leave your home.

E-Consultations

Online consultations have increased in popularity in recent years. Instead of going to the doctor's office for a visit, you can simply log on to your computer and have a consultation with a doctor. There are limits to the services that are provided. Since different providers offer varying services, compare the services offered before deciding on a doctor.

Some providers have expanded their services to include consultations through mobile apps. Through the apps, you can ask questions of a doctor and share medical information with a doctor. Some apps offer the ability to video conference with the doctor or allow you to talk with a doctor by phone to receive treatment.

As with mobile-doctor services, check with your insurance company to determine whether the costs of an e-consultation are covered. The fees are usually affordable, so even if they are not covered, they are likely still reasonable enough that you can get the medical help needed.

You do not have to leave your home to get the care that you need. By taking advantage of one of the various methods available for in-home care, you can get better without the hassle of going to the doctor.
