Relieve Your Own Knee Joint Pain Naturally At Home

Chronic knee joint pain is very debilitating. If you are suffering with knee pain, then you need to know that there are many simple, natural ways that you can alleviate your pain.

Before you reach for your prescription pain medication bottle, try these two very effective home treatments for your knee pain:

Cold and Heat Combination Therapy

Both heat and cold can be used as therapy for injuries and pain. However, when it comes to alleviating knee pain, a combination of the two can provide you with the most relief possible.

When you put an ice pack on your knee, it helps to relieve inflation in your knee tissues. When you put a heating pad on your knee, it helps to increase the amount of blood flowing into your knee's tissues. When you use a cold and heat combination therapy, you get the benefits of both treatments combined. And, in this case, the two therapies together will give you much better results than using just one therapy or the other.

To properly use ice and a heating pad on your knee, use the ice first for twenty minutes. Remove the ice and let your knee sit for ten minutes. Once this time has passed, then you should apply the heating pad for twenty minutes.

For the best results, repeat the cold and heat combination up to five times each day.

Bathing in Epsom Salts

For generations people have been soaking their bodies in Epsom salt solutions in order to relieve muscle, and joint, pain.

Epsom salt is the common name for magnesium sulfate salt. When you soak in a bath containing Epsom salt, the magnesium will be absorbed into your body from the bath water. The additional magnesium in your body helps to alleviate inflammation that causes pain.

To prepare an Epsom salt bath, place a cup of Epsom salt into a hot bathtub filled half-way to the top. Soak your knee in the solution for at least thirty minutes for the best results.

Alternatively, if you do not have access to a bathtub, you can make an Epsom salt solution of:

  • 1 teaspoon Epsom salt
  • 1 cup of hot water

Dip a washcloth in the solution. Wring it out and apply it to your knee. Cover the washcloth with a dry towel in order to keep the heat in the washcloth for a longer time. Let the washcloth sit on your knee for at least twenty minutes.

Conclusion

Chronic knee joint pain should not be a limiting factor in your life. By regularly soaking in an Epsom salt bath, and by correctly using combination temperature therapy, you can quickly begin to have many more pain-free days.
